“CORPS, MEDECINE ET MACHINES A L’ AGE CLASSIQUE”
Inspired by the ideas contained in the newly recovered ancient sources, Renaissance humanists questioned the traditional teachings of universities. Humanistically trained physicians, called “medical humanists,” were particularly active in the field of natural philosophy, where alternative approaches were launched and tested. Their intellectual outcome contributed to the reorientation of philosophy toward natural questions, which were to become crucial in the seventeenth century. This volume explores six medical humanists of diverse geographical and confessional origins (Leoniceno, Fernel, Schegk, Gemma, Liceti and Sennert) and their debates on matter, life and the soul. The study of these debates sheds new light on the contributions of humanist culture to the evolution of early modern natural philosophy
A leading early modern anatomist and physician, Marcello Malpighi often compared himself to that period's other great mind--Galileo. Domenico Bertoloni Meli here explores Malpighi's work
and places it in the context of seventeenth-century intellectual life.
Malpighi's interests were wide and varied. As a professor at the University of Bologna, he confirmed William Harvey's theory of the circulation of blood; published groundbreaking studies of human
organs; made important discoveries about the anatomy of silkworms; and examined the properties of plants. He sought to apply his findings to medical practice. By analyzing Malpighi's work, the
author provides novel perspectives not only on the history of anatomy but also on the histories of science, philosophy, and medicine. Through the lens of Malpighi and his work, Bertoloni Meli
investigates a range of important themes, from sense perception to the meaning of Galenism in the seventeenth century.
Bertoloni Meli contends that to study science and medicine in the seventeenth century one needs to understand how scholars and ideas crossed disciplinary boundaries. He examines Malpighi's work
within this context, describing how anatomical knowledge was achieved and transmitted and how those processes interacted with the experimental and mechanical philosophies, natural history, and
medical practice.
Malpighi was central in all of these developments, and his work helped redefine the intellectual horizon of the time. Bertoloni Meli's critical study of this key figure and the works of his
contemporaries--including Borelli, Swammerdam, Redi, and Ruysch--opens a wonderful window onto the scientific and medical worlds of the seventeenth century

There are many ways to talk about the body. Yet, there are also many ways to practice and visualize bodies. In this conference we aim to have an input selection of versions and repertoires of
bodies in the analyses offered by STS and social science approaches. The body is the primary environment in which we live, the physical boundary that identifies us, as “unique individuals”, and
the other, other bodies. Science and technology have focused on the task of knowing, opening, modifying, slicing, describing and prescribing notions on bodies. For this conference, we do not wish
to start with a predetermined idea of what a body is and what are its borders but we seek to analyze, however, the many bodies that can be enacted by different practices and the connections
between them. Thus we invite contributions to the conference that seek to offer a version of the body, topographically or analytically, empirically or theoretically.
What other repertoires could be mobilized to talk, practice, and visualize bodies? What are the networks that can be made visible to talk about them? (The destruction of the public and the
erosion of the commons and its effects on bodies, the fluidity of notions of the “patient” and “illness”, the metabolic and gastric functions of eating for which without no bodies will survive,
etc.)
Confirmed key note speakers are Thomas W. Laqueur (Department of History, University of California Berkeley), Sebastian Abrahamsson (Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of
Amsterdam) and Sandra Eder (Institute and Museum for the History of Medicine, University of Zurich).

we celebrated the Science, Technology, and Gender: Bodies and Differences, in 2010 the Cartographies of the Body: bio-politics of Science and Technology, and in 2011 the Cartographies of Science
and Technology: Ethnographies, Images, and Epistemologies .

Goûter la terre
Dans le récit de sa vie dans les bois, au bord de l’étang de Walden (Massachusetts), Henry David Thoreau écrit: « Dans les bois aussi, un homme se débarrasse de ses années comme le serpent de son ancienne peau et, à quelque période de la vie qu’il soit, il est toujours un enfant. Dans les bois se trouve la jeunesse éternelle ».
Faut-il tomber dans une idéalisation du retour à terre qui serait une pureté retrouvée ? Le retour à la terre, comme territoire de l’enfance de soi et de l’humanité, dépendrait-il d’une « faculté de produire ce plaisir qui ne réside pas dans la nature mais dans l’homme, ou dans une harmonie des deux » ? Le mépris pour le paysage, sinon sa destruction, proviendrait-il d’une dévalorisation spirituelle de la nature ? « La nature arbore toujours les couleurs de l’esprit ».
A travers l’histoire culturelle et philosophique de la TERRE, à travers les spiritualités et les pratiques corporelles qui consacrent son importance élémentale, ce colloque international souhaite étudier le « goût de terre » comme une sensation et un sentiment inscrits dans des cosmologies, des mystiques, des humanismes. Le parcours, le paysage, la ville et la campagne, le territoire, l’agriculture, les questions de souveraineté et de droit, également la créativité artistique seront les principaux motifs abordés ici dans la perspective d’une éthique de la terre.

In the year 2000, Jean-Claude Bélégou decided to go back to the colour squared photographs of his beginnings. Since 2000, he has continued his colour work realized on films, which are then
digitalized. His colour works aren't as concerned with the lessons of the history of Photography, but with the lessons of the history of painting. His work is characterized by its sensuality and
influenced in its form by a realistic approach.
In 1969, Jean-Claude Bélégou began to practice photography on a regular basis, and from 1970 onwards, devoted himself to creation. At the same time, he pursues his degree of philosophy and
history of Art and Archeology at Sorbonne University. He specializes in Aesthetic and dedicates his master dissertation on photography in 1976. Standing aside from his generation very much
influenced by American photography, Bélégou refuses the neo-positivist experience of documentary style as much as the legacy of humanist photography. The German photography of the twenties
(Bauhaus, Neue Sehen, Neue Sachlickheit, August Sander) had a strong artistical impact on him.
The first exhibitions of his work were in 1980. He was immediately acknowledged by Claude Nori, Edouard Boubat, and Christian Caujolle. While continuing his photographic work, he created the
association Photographies & Co in May 1982 within which he organized exhibitions, talks, seminars, training seminars, writings on other photographs, always willing to combine theoretical
research to his work of creation.
