I love Lucy

"Seeking Panelists for Berkshires 2014 in Toronto
I am seeking two other scholars to create a three scholar panel for the upcoming Berkshires in Toronto. I am especially interested in potential panelists focused on bodies in media but would also
be interested in putting together a more general post World War II panel. My own paper examines the embodied fantasy of the character of Lucy Ricardo in the postwar television sitcom I Love Lucy.
I examine the ways that the body of the character of Lucy was simultaneously constructed and reconstructed by the show’s writers and production team, Lucille Ball, and ultimately the audience
themselves, to both subvert and fulfill postwar gender and sexual norms. I also focus on how the show deliberately blurred the lines between fantasy of the show and the “reality” of Lucille Ball
and Desi Arnaz’s actual marriage".
Thanks!
