In what ways do artistic constructions of the body appear in literature? The Fabricating the Body permanent section of the M/MLA is soliciting proposals for conference papers that analyze
artistic constructions of human and non-human bodies in literature. From paintings, to sculpture, to drawings literary works portray bodies as ideal objects d’art, and also as grotesque
manifestations. How do aesthetic, phenomenological, ecocritical, feminist and even animal-other theories inform our understanding of the artistic body in literary works? We seek papers that
analyze any genre or time period of literature
